We loved our stay here and will come back if we are ever in Quito again. The staff, food, rooftop, nearby laundry, and activities including free walking tour were exceptional. We felt very looked after by the staff, and it was the perfect place to explore old town from. We went in the free walking tour and Paulo was a great guide. We ate market fruit, learned some history, went chocolate tasting and walked through the beautifully preserved old streets.

Peaceful hotel in a great location with lots of restaurants nearby. Cheap taxi ride into the old town.
Lovely selection of items for breakfast with choice of freshly cooked egg dishes.
The staff were friendly and helpful - they arranged taxis to and from the airport, stored our luggage and even got up in the middle of the night to receive our delayed luggage.

Casa Alquimia is one of the nicest mid-priced hotels I have ever stayed in. This mansion is at the end of what must have been a massive restoration project, and the results are impressive. My wife and I stayed there twice in a single trip, once on our arrival and once prior to our departure. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. The view from the breakfast area is spectacular; it includes a massive statue on a nearby hilltop (see photo). Sylvana, the proprietress, was went out of her way to offer advice, arrange for (excellent) tours, recommend restaurants and even to help in the ultimately unsuccessful effort to locate the host family from my exchange student days 57 years ago. Several staff members speak English, and so my ancient Spanish wasn't stressed much at all. Our visit was delightful, and we'd be happy to return.
