Our stay at Ryokan Tori was for sure one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Satako and her husband were so kind and so welcoming -- and the experience that they create for their guests is magical. The ryokan is located in a wonderful part of Kyoto, and we enjoyed exploring the shrines, temples and traditional streets that surround it. After exploring, we returned to a tea ceremony that Satako shared with us. Afterwards we bathed in the onsen, and then slept incredibly well in the traditional bedrooms. Breakfast the next morning was wonderful. We felt like we were in a dream the entire time -- it was an enchanting experience. Our night at Ryokan Tori will stay in my memory and heart forever. Kokonoe Machiya is a place filled with thoughtfulness, warmth, and lots of attention to detail. Even before we arrived, Toni was already helpful with receiving our bags which we had sent over in advance. He prepared some wonderful Japanese breakfasts that were perfect for New Years celebration in Japan (with some delicious pudding to end with). The shared bathrooms and toilets were convenient and always clean, and having a well set-up Google assistant in the room was a great function we didn't even know we wanted. The quiet walks to and from the bus stops gave us a nice glimpse of local life. Chatting with Toni was delightful; his openness and sincerity were truly felt and allowed for some heartfelt and enjoyable conversation. It was very interesting to see the culture from his unique perspective. We had a really comfortable stay and left feeling inspired and refreshed.

The Rinn was a beautifully appointed wooden one storey house with our bedroom upstairs and lounge, kitchen and bathroom downstairs. The bed was excellent and very comfortable, the location excellent as we walked to Kyotos Imperial Palace and staff were very friendly and helpful. We will certainly return!

What a wonderful hotel! So peaceful and quite, gives you absolute calmness and Japanese vibes. Comfortable! Love the built in music and the bath was another level!! The hospitality was amazing, the tea was on point, the staff is super friendly and speaks English very well!

The hotel and room were exceptional and furnished to a very high standard. It is close by the train station and has excellent transport links to popular tourist sights. Loved its location by the Kamogawa river. We saw fireflies and black kites when we were there. We loved the little personal touches like handwritten notes everyday telling us what the weather was going to be like and good wishes, also being invited to take part in Tanabata festival. Little treats of snacks and drinks left in our rooms to enjoy daily. The exceptional kindness and interest taken in our trips to the sightseeing events. We won't forget La, the English speaking young hotel receptionist who brought our breakfast every morning or Kameyuma the manager. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
