GermanyI truly enjoyed my stay at Chipatso! I originally planned to spend just one week in Cape Maclear, but I ended up staying for eight weeks. The lodge is located in a peaceful spot a little away from the lake, which creates a calm and relaxed atmosphere – perfect for escaping the busier parts of town. That said, the lake is still just a short walk away, so you can easily enjoy the beach and the water whenever you like.
The vibe at Chipatso is super laid-back and family-like, and you feel welcome right from the start. The rooms are clean, cozy, and very creatively designed, with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
What made the experience truly special were the people: the lovely mamas who live on the property are so warm and kind, and the kids are curious and always up for some fun. The rest of the Chipatso team is amazing – friendly, helpful, and always there when you need something, whether it's arranging transportation to your next destination or helping you organize an activity.
And what makes Chipatso truly unique is that it’s not just a lodge – it’s also a community-based organization with a meaningful mission. They run an education and nutrition program, and support single mothers in the area. If you're interested, don’t miss the guided tour with Kim, where he shares the inspiring story behind the organization and the important work they’re doing.
Also, don’t miss the sunset hike to the baobab tree with Ilia – it’s absolutely worth it! And make sure to try the chicken schnitzel – so good.

Was able to have a tab open as I had usd $ so very favourable exchange in the recent deval. Coffee plunger 2 cup was insulated and perfect, breakfast was generous and the poolside space is very good. The bathroom I had was a mixer shower with a fixed to wall but adjustable spray pattern. Best shower I have had in Malawi.
