Oh how do I do justice to this wonderful place? The appartment is larger and looks a lot better in real life than on pictures. The pool and garden are wonderful and the views from the balcony (which feels like an extra room) are amazing. The furniture and kitchen are all handmade by locals, much like the breakfast, the welcome drinks, everything is made by the owners or their family and friends in the small town. And that is probably the main draw, cause Maja is incredibly hospitable. We ate breakfast like kings and queens, were welcomed with self made wine and juice, and everyday Maja came to check in with us, not like a host, but more like a friendly neighbor welcoming you in town. My only regret is that I felt too awkward to hug her when we left, cause it felt like saying goodbye to a new friend.

Amazing winery escape, where you can just relax and take in the natural surroundings. The estate is run by the most welcoming family, who made us feel like we are part of the family. Wine Tasting in the evening was lovely, as well as the breakfast offered by the host in the morning. Truly loved it. Rooms are modern, comfortable and equipped with everything one needs.

Vipava, the only valley among valleys, close to the expressway, yet peaceful and quiet, as if it weren't there. The house where we stayed for a week is a great surprise. It begins with a key. Next, the door, old with a big, true key, when opened, reveals the well-kept beauty of a story. Alice in Wonderland—that feeling. Wonderful. Next, we enter an illusionary realm: old furniture, bookcases, numerous wall pictures, like those of children and adults, tugging at our hearts with memories. It is (and probably was and probably will be) fabulous. Ripening figs all around, a spacious garden, seemingly carefree yet charming. And all around, silence, peace, unless the fifteen minutes pass and church bells ring the bells. Time truly brought us more than we could have expected. It truly is, behind Alice's mirror. If you've ever wanted to spend a moment in a fairytale world, we recommend it. Spend time there for your soul.

Villa Irena is excellent accommodation in the medieval hilltop town of Vipavski Kriz. The recently renovated traditional home in the heart of the village was spacious, well equipped, meticulously clean with a very comfortable bed. The owner, Irena, is to be congratulated as she is a superb host. She not only cares about her guests & the quality of their stay but also provides information on a variety of activities and attractions in the Vipava Valley. The breakfast Irena provides at an additional cost is delicious and plentiful. We didn't need lunch! We highly recommend staying at Villa Irena!!
