Situated in Gotsu, in a historic building, 13 km from Gotsu City General Citizen Center Milky Way Hall, Ryokan Nushiya is a ryokan with an open-air bath and garden. This was our fourth trip to Japan and we've stayed in many ryokans. This is one of our favorites. The space we stayed at was huge. It was a two-story stand alone building. The seats looked out onto the courtyard with a pond and a lot of trees, which was very peaceful. I'm usually not the type to stay in my hotel/ryokan all day, but this place tempted me to do so due to the serenity of the courtyard. There were two private onsen that were easy to access due to the small number of guests that stay here. The food was fabulous. While walking around one morning I found a hiking trail that led up to castle ruins. The next morning I hiked up to the ruins and down the other side and came out near the Moss Land.

All of our meals, dinner and breakfast, were a delight to the taste buds as well as visually pleasing.

Comfortable room. Easy to check in and out at the kiosk. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. As for the location, it was easy to walk (10 to 20 minutes) to several attractions: the castle, a tatami workshop, history museum and a soy sauce brewery. Also, several excellent restaurants were nearby.
