The proximity of the guest house was very close to the station, and the host and hostess, Funa and Kimi were extremely kind and helpful. The introduction to their guest house was very thoroughly, and made sure everyone was warm after traveling through the winter snow and temperature. Not only were the hosts very friendly and willing to chat, but they even provided and help make reservations at recommended restaurants! When I asked where I could find a furoshiki I could purchase for a souvenir, Kimi kindly offered one she had for me to take home as a souvenir! I had a great time chatting with them while waiting for my train to the next destination. They were even helping some other guests with translation of medical documents due to an injury received while skiing. Funa and Kimi are the perfect host to anyone staying in Otaru! I stayed in the Japanese style room and wish I could have stayed longer. Next time I go to Otaru, there's no doubt I'll be staying with them again!

The location is excellent, but what stands out the most is the warm and friendly hospitality from the staff. The room was spotless, and since I visited during winter, I was especially pleased that the heater kept the entire space cozy, including the bathroom, which made the shared accommodations even more comfortable. If I return to Otaru, I will definitely choose to stay here again.

Such a cool place. The owners are fly fishermen and aesthetic of the place it decorated with fishing related decor here and there. All the facilities are very new and clean, the hosts are very friendly and helpful even dropping us (myself and another guest) to the station (like a ten minute drive) ! Owner is Japanese but studied in the US as I understand so English is very much not a problem here. All staff speak Japanese too so issue for Japanese speakers either! This is a hostel, not a hotel, but as long as you allow that, it is one of the very best of hostel. I have stayed at many hostels across Japan, and even within Japanese standard (as you rarely miss here) it is very much one of the best, clean, great staff, all facilities are new and clean, all amenities available, toothbrush, towel, shampoo etc Very good experience, would recommend
