The reason to come here is that front porch. The rest of the cabin is small but functional. Give yourself a few hours to stay there and watch the animals of the lake. We were braced for clouds of insects, but there weren't many, maybe we got lucky. We also went for the morning lake tour which was fantastic. Excellent breakfast as well. The host was really helpful and easy to get ahold of.

The house was spacious and set in a beautiful garden not far from the lake and within easy cycling distance of the museum and old town. The room was very clean, comfortable and well appointed with a lovely balcony overlooking the garden. The breakfasts are evening meals were generous and delicious. Binara and his family were friendly and welcoming . He speaks very good English and communicated clearly and promptly throughout. He went out of his way to ensure that I got the most out of my stay and was so kind and helpful in helping me with travel arrangements. He recommended a wonderful elephant safari with a very knowledgeable and experienced guide which I really enjoyed. This was a great base for exploring Polonaruwa and I would highly recommend Binara Homestay.

Staying at Aruna Home Stay in Polonnaruwa was by far the best experience I had with local people during my trip in Sri Lanka. Mom and daughter were incredibly kind, always smiling, and genuinely helpful, making me feel like part of their family from the very first moment. The room was simple but very clean and comfortable, with everything I needed for a pleasant stay. What really made the difference was the warm hospitality: sharing meals, stories, and local advice gave me the chance to experience authentic Sri Lankan culture in a way that no hotel could offer. The location is also great, close to the ancient city and easy to reach by bike or tuk-tuk. Breakfast and dinner prepared at the homestay were delicious, with fresh and traditional dishes full of flavor. Room is very big, with comfortable beds. Very quiet location. Hot water works very well, there is even a toothpaste. WiFi works very well. We had no mosquitoes. To the historical part you can cycle by bicycle , there is a path, you don’t have to cycle on the highway. The juices are very tasty.

The first time I stayed here was in 2016 and I love to return to this place to Amma Vasa, Samal, and now Lilly the dog! They welcomed us like their own family and I'm writing this now with wet eyes. The place itself is something you are searching for in the journey: clean, simple, and comfortable. The location is great also, just 5 minutes from the Ancient City and the lake by bike, that can also rent there. The hosts also helped us get our clothes to the laundry and dropped us near the only working restaurant even though it was late and heavy raining. Thank you from the very bottom of my heart. Best wishes and blessings from Arina, Igor, Dasha and Gor. We will be back!

    Beautiful, spacious room with AC available for a small additional cost which was very welcome in the humidity! Lovely host family who arranged us transportation from our previous location and dropped us at the bus stop too for our onward journey. We explored the ruins on bicycles you can rent from the property and we had delicious dinner and breakfast. Would 10/10 stay here again.

    The host family were super friendly, making the nice atmosphere in their homestay. The bathroom was very clean and pleasant, and the food that they serve for breakfast and dinner is just amazing. I was served like someone special. They are ready to help you with everything, you can rent a bike to go to the ancient city. This homestay is a little out of a town in a nice , quiet area. I enjoyed my stay there a lot and recommend this place.
