The homestay is generally very simple compared to western standards (shared bathroom with the family, simple shower and hole-in-the-floor toilet, mattress on the floor for sleeping), which was perfectly fine for us. Just don't go in expecting a luxurious hotel, you won't find that on Komodo island. The place was squeaky clean and we felt very welcome and would come back in a heartbeat!

You will get places in the national park all to yourself before and after the boat tours leave. We saw so many dragons, sea turtles, manta rays, and other wildlife. The home was very comfortable and food was delicious. I would recommend this to anyone looking to explore the national park in a unique way- so much better than the boat tours. Note: bring 1-2 quick dry towels with you for the beach and shower. It’s also worth mentioning it’s a shared bathroom if there are other guests in the homestay. It wasn’t an issue, but I didn’t know before booking.

The family who hosted us was very kind and helped arrange a local boat to take us to different beaches and snorkeling spots that were absolutely gorgeous (like manta point and pink beach). The host is a ranger at Komodo National Park and gave us a wonderful tour. It was very special to stay in the Muslim village on the sea and have a glimpse of life there. Everyone was very friendly and warm.
