Situated in Kumamoto, 2.4 km from Suizenji Park, 旅の途中 On the trip features accommodation with free bikes, free private parking, a shared lounge and a bar. Located around 6.9 km from Hosokawa Residence Gyobutei, the hostel with free WiFi is also 7.1 km away from Egao Kenko Stadium Kumamoto. The property is non-smoking and is set 5.4 km from Kumamoto Castle. This traditional Japanese-style house is full of character and beautifully designed with great attention to detail. While it’s not a fully private room, the sleeping area is well separated, offering a comfortable sense of privacy. Sounds do carry a bit, as it’s an old house, but the creativity in the space makes each stay feel fresh and inspiring. It’s conveniently located—about 10 minutes by bus to Shin-Suizenji Station and around 15 minutes to central Kumamoto. The nearby “Gootarian” space is also a nice addition. The area has historic spots like Kengun Shrine, perfect for a morning walk. With shops, supermarkets, and convenience stores nearby, it’s easy to grab a bento or snacks and relax at the accommodation. It really feels like staying in a local home. Free parking is a big plus. I prefer not to drive at night, so being able to park and explore by bus has worked out perfectly.

Set in Tamana, 20 km from Hirayama Hot Spring, HIKE offers air-conditioned accommodation and a shared lounge. The property is around 24 km from Hosokawa Residence Gyobutei, 25 km from Kumamoto Castle and 29 km from Suizenji Park. The accommodation provides a shared kitchen, and luggage storage for guests.

With a shared bathroom fitted with a shower and a hairdryer, rooms at the hostel also have free WiFi, while selected rooms also offer a mountain view. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was large and clean. Our room was the family room with a decent sized playhouse inside where the kids play and even sleep. The building is old, but has been remodeled and is comfortable. The baked goods in the cafe on the 1st floor are delicious, and the cafe is whimsical and charming. There’s a kid’s playroom at the back of the cafe which was great for us, a group with lots of kids. There are also many ceramic wares by local artists for sale. I’d like to visit when the weather is cooler and explore the neighborhood.

Set in Kumamoto and with Hosokawa Residence Gyobutei reachable within 3.1 km, Hotel The Gate Kumamoto offers a shared lounge, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi throughout the property and a bar. Built in 2012, this 3-star hostel is within 3.3 km of Kumamoto Castle and 6.1 km of Suizenji Park. The hostel features family rooms. The restrooms and shower were clean, the dorm was quiet and there was a locker in each room for each guest to store their belongings in, which might come in handy when you have to share a room. I was able to stay by myself though and was able to fully relax. The bed was comfortable and the locker is spacious. The lighting is comfortable. The staff was really kind and helpful. I wasn't able to find the bus stop location of my bus online and went to the front desk at 11pm to ask for help. They kindly printed out a map of the bus stops at Kumamoto Station and explained how to get there twice and made sure I understood. I really appreciated that.
