New Owners of Atherton Blue Gum Matt and Margaret have been married 20 years. Matt originally from Southeast Queensland, is a dad and documentary maker with a passion for people and pole homes. Margaret, a mum, farm girl and homemaker from Tumoulin her family have lived on the Tablelands in Tumoulin for over 110 years.
Every weekend, they can be found working in the gardens, removing introduced species and focusing on bringing the rainforest back to the property. They are also constantly working on improving the house and yard, with the goal of making their guests' stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Matt and Marg's love for pole homes stems from their appreciation for unique architecture and sustainable design. They believe that pole homes offer a harmonious way of living, blending seamlessly with the natural environment.
In his documentary work millstreamproductions(dot)com(dot)au, Matt often explores themes of sustainability, community, and the human connection to nature. He is drawn to stories that highlight the positive impact people can have on the environment and each other.
When not working on documentaries or tending to their pole home, Matt and Margaret enjoy spending time with their family, hiking in the rainforest, and helping out on their family’s farm.

At close to 800 m's above sea level, the temperature is a pleasant relief from the coastal humidity.

The “Atherton Tablelands” or “Cairns Highlands”, situated close to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef, the Waterfalls and Crater Lake District is a wonderful place to spend some time in Far North Queensland.
Townships in the Tablelands region include: Atherton, Mareeba, Herberton, Millaa Millaa, Ravenshoe, Yungaburra and Malanda.
With an annual rainfall of around 1400mm, Atherton (The most central town), and its immediate district, are a lovely tropical green. The towns and villages of the Atherton Tablelands boast a tropical atmosphere and close knit community spirit. Naturally air-conditioned, being an average 700 metres above sea level the district is free of coastal humidity and high temperatures. The perfect summer retreat, but still close to coastal attractions. Residents boast that they are blessed with the best weather in the world. With winter getting an occasional helping of early morning frost and the daily temperature around a perfect 21 degrees Celsius.
An ideal position to base yourself. Visit the crater lakes, world heritage rainforest, waterfalls and historical areas. You can even explore further west, out to the Gulf Savannah and other Outback areas.
