Hi my name is Erica and I am the owner of the "beach Buoy" since 1995. As I live in Hobart I will not be on site to meet you in person, but there is a very simple procedure to obtaining the keys at the property, this also gives you the flexibility of arriving at your own leisure. I just love hosting and know that it takes everyone by surprise when they open the door and see where this little cottage is situated. I have a quirky sense of decor, but make sure that it is very comfortable. I love the fact that it is still has a charming "shacky" vibe! Over the last 3 years my partner and I have done some extensive travelling around Australia, so have been lucky enough to visit many states and territories. my working background was mainly in the jewellery industry, I worked in the family jewellery business from a 16 year old and worked in hospitality as well, and eventually had the opportunity to take over the family business with another family member and this remained open until 2016. My mother and father spent alot of their younger years at Opossum Bay and eventually bought a property on the beach as well, and my Grandfather built one of the original shacks in the 1930s
Opossum Bay is a quiet seaside small suburb of Hobart, it has stunning beaches safe for swimming and fishing and is a perfect spot to go on great walks. There is a small corner store that cook great fish and chips , as well as selling basic items and a small range of fruit and vegetables, petrol is available as well. If you would like a meal, there is an RSL in Southarm approximately 5 min drive, here they serve nightly meals and takeaway pizzas are available on some nights. You will be right in front of the Derwent River and it is the gateway for the famous Sydney to Hobart yacht race, where you get to see the winning yacht sail right past! There have been many dolphins sighted from the cottage and binoculars are provided to enjoy these sightings up close. Guests have been known to walk down to the rocks from the cottage and get oysters from the rocks and then take them home to enjoy..its right there on your doorstep! you may even get to see the Southern Lights, which if visible, you will have an advantage point from this spectacular part of Tasmania. There is also a bus service (walking distance) which takes you into the city and a bus returning in the afternoon
