Company information

Hi, I'm Paul, a 30 year local of Tasmania's Huon Valley. I operate Huon Valley Escapes and offer a selection of boutique accommodation in southern Tasmania. Each property has a close connection to nature.

Property information

In the Far South of Tasmania, the forest parts to reveal a spectacular open buttongrass plain. This modern two bedroom self-contained eco-cabin is a comfortable eco-experience with 12 volt solar electricity and hot water, wood heating and is a getaway from distractions like TV, WiFi and in-room phones. We offer exclusive occupancy; just one guest accommodation in a 20Ha private reserve. Comfort and nature make Buttongrass Retreat the perfect place to base for exploring the natural beauty of Tasmania's Far South. One queen bed is provided per 2 people booked. If you need extra beds, this can be arranged at extra cost. Please discuss with us once you have booked. This special habitat is home to a unique range of flowers, birds and animals, a community found nowhere else. The view to the Southern Ranges is spectacular and sometimes snow capped. Dark night sky makes for spectacular starscapes. Important note: A place to retreat to nature. Buttongrass Retreat is a place to escape from the hassles of modern life for a few days. Get away from television, phones and 240 volt electricity and enjoy some peace and quiet. 12 volt solar electricity operates the lights and music. There is usually limited 240 volt electricity, enough to charge a mobile phone or camera but not sufficient to run a laptop computer for more than an hour a day. Although we do accept single night bookings, most guests who only book a single night are disappointed they did not book onger. Cleaning is our biggest cost. When you stay at Buttongrass Retreat for multi nights, we offer substantial discounts because we only clean once.

Neighbourhood information

Tasmania's south is a land of waterways, wilderness, wildlife and wine. Short walks to waterfalls or spectacular coastal reserves including the southern-most beach in all Australia. So much to see in a small region means less driving, more adventure. This cabin is a great multi night base for Hastings Caves, Dover, Southport, Lune River and Cockle Creek. Explore many short bushwalks to Southport Lagoon, Moonlight Ridge and South Cape Bay, the southernmost beach in Australia.
