'Freida' is an historic Australian farm homestead. The property is named after the original owner, local pioneer midwife, Freida Hicks, who cared for women and babies across the Bellinger Valley in the late 1800s.
The farmhouse is typical of its era, is cedar clad and wrapped by long verandas. It has 4 double bedrooms with high ceilings, all with french doors which open out on to the verandahs.
‘Freida' is very spacious and accommodates family gatherings and special occasions beautifully. She has a large country kitchen which is well stocked for entertaining. It has a 5 burner gas stove and oven and central bench for hanging out catching up with the cook.
The wood fire is the heart of the living area and the clawsfoot bath is a favourite with all.
Set on 10 acres, there are orchards and rambling, bird-filled gardens to wander through and enjoy.
We also from time to time we open and offer our family’s two bedroom garden apartment to guests. This tasteful conversion of a farm workspace sits below the western end of the main farmhouse. North facing, the apartment receives beautiful winter sun in the living area. A wood fire is also the heart of the space. Local hardwood features throughout the apartment and the floors are polished concrete. There are lovely views out to the garden from every room and the front terrace is a great space to relax and enjoy the birdlife and beautiful natural surrounds. Feel free to ask about this space.
Our family has been welcoming guests to Freida - Historic Farmhouse for a number of years. It is a joy. We attract great guests who love country life and simplicity.
We've loved having so many big family gatherings at the property and are pleased to also be able to accommodate small families and budget travelers. We are always working on the property and hope to expand into supporting weddings in the near future.
We are regularly onsite and available to welcome you and provide advice personally. If not, we are always available by phone. Please free to reach out and ask questions about the property or region.
Most people who come to our area fall in love with it. Some never leave. Its a lush green valley with a clear pebbly river through the centre, surrounded by a forested mountain escarpment to the north and beaches to the east. Heavenly.
Originally a cedar-getters region in the pioneering days, the main town, Bellingen has many historic buildings. It has a diverse population, old farming and logging families, alternative life-style new settlers of the 70s and 80s and a new wave of ex-city professionals doing the 'tree change'. The town is full of cafes and culture. The year is peppered with events like the Winter Music Festival and Camp Creative.
Our pocket of the region, Gleniffer is famous for the beautiful Never Never River and its swimming holes. We are half an hour's drive from Dorrigo and its World Heritage National Park, Rainforest Centre and Skywalk.
