Kappering (Emu) Retreat is the old Gorae School, located right on the edge of the Cobboboonee State Forest, on Gunditjmara country. Surrounded by native bush on 2 sides and apple orchards on the other 2, this is the perfect spot to relax and find some peace and quiet.
With an abundance of native wildlife living in the backyard and bush walks at the back of the property, the home is conveniently located about 15 minutes from the centre of Portland, and 20 minutes from Cape Bridgewater.
The Home
Comfortably sleeping 8 people, the home is suitable for 1 or 2 families, or a group of friends. It has a separate kitchen, living/ dining area, extra chill space, 2 bathrooms, and a separate laundry.
Please note that the home runs off rainwater tanks, including all drinking water.
During the winter months firewood is provided to keep the fire going during your stay.
The kitchen has an electric stove/oven and is equipped with essentials. If you require anything specific, please ask before hand.
There is a deck and outdoor area to sit and relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Pets are allowed but please note that the home is not fenced so pets can't be confined. Pets are requested to stay outside only.
There is limited phone range and no free to air television at the property. Telstra has 4G range and Optus is patchy. There is a smart TV to access all the apps and satellite internet is provided.
Guest access
The entire house and car port, with plenty of room to park a horse float or a boat. No access to the garage.
What to see and do
Take a drive to the centre of Portland, any of the surf beaches, walk the nature trails, bring your boat or go fishing off the breakwater in town, or just sit back and relax and enjoy the serenity...!
