Two local families from Maclean purchased this historic home in May 2022 from the Bultitude family who had lived there for over 60 years.
After purchasing the property they have spent the last 12 months restoring the building. Much love and care has gone into preserving as much of the building as could be saved with research into its history.
The goal has been to preserve this iconic building and provide guests with a memorable experience in Ulmarra, the best kept secret of The Clarence, with a simple bed and breakfast experience.
Whether it be an overnight, or longer term stay, The Bank House provides opportunity for guests to experience the historic town of Ulmarra with other travellers in a relaxed, comfortable and historic home. The Bank House is a quaint bed and breakfast located in the charming and historic town of Ulmarra in the Clarence Valley, 14 kilometres north of Grafton.
The Bank House offers guests a heritage stay in a beautifully restored settlers home that has been not only a home, but the site of the original Australian Joint Stock Exchange Bank in the area in 1860s.
Built in the late 1800’s on the banks of the Clarence River it is located directly across the road from the historic Ulmarra Hotel.
The Bank House sleeps up to 8 guests with four spacious bedrooms.
The Bradman Room, with ensuite and king size bed is named after Sir Donald Bradnam, who as legend says, played cricket in the back yard whilst on tour.
The Anzac Room with a queen size bed is situated directly beside the Anzac Park.
Cohen's Room named after one of the original owners has 2 single beds.
Finally, The Bank Room which also has a queen size bed, is where the safe was located when the building was a bank. These 3 rooms share bathroom facilities.
All rooms feature fans, heating and quality cotton bedding with beautiful antique furniture hand-picked in Northern NSW. A spacious main bathroom is also provided with a large restored dining area and lounge room, fireplace and a rustic farm style kitchen. Be amazed by the original water well that is now built into the restored timber flooring, with glass overlay filled with old bottles discovered on the grounds!

Ulmarra is a picturesque heritage town, and was the setting of the iconic Australian Movie - "Fields of Fire". Ulmarra is located on the Clarence River and was the original port town from the 1860s.
The Bank House is the original Australian Joint Stock Bank that serviced traders, timber getters and settlers.
The Bank House is only a stone's throw from the Ulmarra Hotel (Best pub in The Clarence), Art Galleries and Cafes. The little town of Ulmarra has beautiful boutique shops and is currently undergoing a facelift with streets caping currently being completed.
Ulmarra is approximately 30 min travelling south on the M1 from Yamba, Brooms Head and Wooli. It is the perfect location to experience all the Clarence Valley has to offer.
