The guest house has 2 guest rooms and a living room. Each bedroom has a separate bathroom with a shower. One of the rooms (Westmalle) has a balcony overlooking the forest and the ecological garden with swimming pond. The other room (Golden Carolus) also has a view of the forest and garden and can use another terrace.
The adjoining living room is shared for both rooms. Breakfast is served there.
The house was completely renovated and (re)built in 2016 according to passive house rules. Hence, it has a very low energy consumption (EPC-7). Electricity is mainly produced by solar panels and (soon) stored in batteries. Hot water is generated by the solar water heater (heat pipes). Most materials are of ecological origin: it is a wooden frame building, insulated with paper (cellulose). Decoration is partly recycled materials (e.g. old wooden doors).
The house is controlled and monitored by a home automation system.
Hospitality+
Because we like to give every guest a warm welcome, we participate in the Hospitality+ programme, an initiative of Tourism Province of Antwerp.
Need a physiotherapist for lymph node drainage? A nurse taking care of your wound? Infusionist or dietary advice? No problem! Give us a call. We will put you in touch with a suitable and reliable care provider from our local network.
Sustainability has long inspired us.
In 2011, Jan took a bio-ecological building course. With these ideas, we started building our current house.
Jan is also active in the climate citizen platform Klein-Brabant, in nature guides and in climate guides.
Ann is well-informed about the cultural activities in the neighborhood, which we ourselves regularly visit, and works in the care sector.
It is located in the centre of a triangle formed by Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels, in the middle of nature along the river Scheldt. It is part of an official 'Silence Area' where natural sounds are louder than man-made noise (at least most of the time). You are very likely to spot several animals in the garden or area, such as roe, grey heron, kingfisher, spotted woodpecker, green woodpecker and, exceptionally, a beaver.
The guest rooms are located along the Belgian cycling and walking network.
