The historic center of Bretten, located about a 15-minute walk away, is characterized by lovingly restored half-timbered houses and narrow alleys that invite visitors to take leisurely strolls. One of the most remarkable sights is the Melanchthon House, the former residence of the reformer Philipp Melanchthon. Today, this charming half-timbered building houses a museum that provides insights into the life and work of the influential scholar. Another highlight is the Pfeiferturm, the most prominent structure of Bretten’s medieval fortifications. Built in the 13th century, the tower has undergone many changes over the years and even served as a prison at one point. In 2009, it was restored with a historically inspired roof. A steep wooden staircase leads to the viewing platform, offering a stunning panoramic view of the town and its surroundings — a unique way to explore the history and beauty of Bretten.
