A Relaxing and peaceful lodge set in the grounds of a 200-year-old farmhouse with over 11 acres of orchard and meadow. L'oume Lodge, formerly the piggery, sits at the edge of the meadow and has its own private gated entrance and parking with a private terrace, built-in BBQ and garden, beyond which is the gated pool area. The property is situated at the edge of a small village with great views of the countryside. The 6 x 12 m pool is open from early April until early October. The pool has steps at one end and is 1.25m deep throughout, there is also a shallow side pool for toddlers. The pool area has a summer kitchen with a sink and fridge, toilet and changing room. There's also a BBQ and a wisteria-covered eating area to enjoy. We have plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas around the pool and lots of space around the pool and garden to set up where you like. Please note that the pool and the facilities around the pool are shared with another gite on the property. The gardens have many fruit trees and lots of honeysuckle, jasmine and hibiscus and there's lots of wildlife to enjoy! There will be some binoculars and a book on local birds in the lodge for you to use. If you want to explore the local area by bike you are also welcome to use our two Schwinn cruisers! If you want to do some longer bike rides you might want to bring some bikes with you. We also have badminton sets and a football goal as well as pool inflatables and noodles etc for the guests to use. We feel that the Les Champs De'Loume has a real charm and offers a very peaceful space to relax and unwind and enjoy the views of the countryside, the wildlife, the lovely sunsets, and the surrounding areas! The layout and the size are great for the privacy of guests, we have three gated entrances around the property so you have your own gated entrance and parking spaces.
We are a family of four and we moved here in August 2023 from Oxford in the UK. I am a printed textile designer and I love wildlife, art and interior design. We had experience renovating a flat in London and a house in Oxford and have taken on this much larger challenge of renovating the farmhouse here and the gites, which are situated in the old piggery and the barn attached to the main house. Luckily there are lots of bric a bracs and brocantes in the surrounding areas which are great for finding treasures for the house and gites! We live in the farmhouse on the other side of a courtyard that leads to the lodge and can easily be contacted on here, by text or by popping over and knocking if you need anything.
Les Champs De L'oume is situated on the edge of a small village in the countryside with some nice walks and bike rides in the surrounding area. There's a local tabac bar that sells some basics and a van selling basics comes to the village in the evening during the summer months. A short drive away you will find larger villages, the nearest being Mansle which is just a 7-minute drive, with all the amenities you might need. Verteuil-Sur-Charente: A picturesque village with a beautiful Château on the banks of the Charente. Only 5 minutes from the castle is the towns old water mill at Moulin de Verteuil which has been converted into a restaurant and tea room with outdoor seating on the waters edge. Kayak, canoe and paddle board on the Charente: There are centres situated in Mansle, Ruffec and Angoulême. Baignade du Portal à Vars: A great place to visit if you want to go for a river swim and picnic. There’s a sandy beach for kids and in the summer lifeguards and a snack bar with occasional live music in the evening. Angoulême: Immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Angoulême, known for its rich history, picturesque views, and the renowned International Comics Festival held annually. There's also a great indoor market. Villebois-Lavalette: Discover the charming medieval town of Villebois-Lavalette, renowned for its historic chateau and quaint streets lined with traditional French architecture. There are many bric-a-bracs and brocantes on throughout the year in the surrounding areas. Local markets to visit: Chasseneuil-sur-Bonnieure every Monday morning and La Rochefoucauld every tuesday morning to name a few. Outdoor Adventures: Take advantage of the beautiful countryside with hiking, cycling, or horseback riding. The Charente region offers breathtaking scenery and endless opportunities for outdoor exploration.
