Roussillon is famous for its ochre deposits that bathe the surrounding region in a distinctive palette of blazing colours. Visit the disused ochre quarry to experience the Colorado landscape and the Écomusée de l'Ocre which offers guided tours and workshops on how ochre was mined here. In the village, there is the parochial church of Saint-Michel, the ancient ramparts and the nineteenth-century bell tower with panoramic views from the Castrum. Beyond the village are lavender fields, vineyards and orchards dotting the landscape. Other famous hill-top villages, with their busy Provençal markets are an easy drive away.
