We bought Ardenbeg & moved to Scotland in 2021. It had formally run as a 23 bed bunkhouse since the early 80's & was (and still is!!) in need of some TLC and updating. We are slowly refurbishing the building a bit at a time, the vision is to create homely, comfortable but affordable accommodation for families/couples/individuals to utilise whilst exploring the beautiful national park we live in. We are undertaking a lot of the work ourselves, mostly by me (Ceri, an ardent up cycler & generally better with power tools than my husband) while Nick continues his 'day job' as a professional Naturalist & tour guide. Whilst our rooms may not be 5 star, & the whole place is a work in progress (which is why we have priced the rooms low), your welcome will be a warm one & we will do what ever we can to make your stay a good one.
We decided to undertake this venture during lockdown number two, when both of our professions went on hold & gave us time to reassess life. I (Ceri, this is pronounced like 'Kerry' for those of you unsure, I thank my parents for that one regularly) had been working in the hospitality sector for the last 20 years & Nick as a Naturalist, working as a tour guide, writer & broadcaster. So we thought we'd up sticks & move to Scotland (along with our teenage daughter Elvie) where Nick already worked a lot & had a real love affair with, I was just up for a change. So we bought Ardenbeg & are in the process of turning it from a 23 bed bunkhouse to a 4 bedroom guest house. Nick continues to operate as he was before the move & is always happy to answer any wildlife questions you may have. He will also be offering guided wildlife watching walks should you like an extra bit of help finding anything from Golden Eagles to Red squirrels. As for me, I just like looking after people, I also bake, A LOT, so you may find yourselves as tasters for my latest experiments!
Grantown on Spey is a great little town, lots of little independent shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, take aways etc. We even have a museum, a sports centre, outdoor centre and not forgetting a golf course. Its a great location for accessing all the amazing places the highlands has to offer. Beautiful walks in our own Anagach woods just a few minutes walk from the house or down to the River Spey. There are plenty of nearby Lochs, watersports available at Loch Morlich & Insch. Loch Ness is only an hours drive if you want a bit of monster hunting. Then there is the cairngorms themselves for the more adventurous who want to bag some munros. There is also fab cycling routes, plenty of places to hire bikes if you don't have your own, there is even a mountain bike park in the town. The nearest beach is 40 minutes away at Nairn, a beautiful long sandy stretch & a good chippy nearby, though the best ice creams are to be found at Lossiemouth, another stunning beach about 50 minutes away.
