Property information

Byrdir House is a Victorian sea captain's house and one of the most prominent buildings in the conservation area of Harlech old town. Having served as a guesthouse for at least sixty years, in recent times the house was closed and fell into disrepair. A major building project from October 2015 to August 2016 saw the house renovated to a high standard and it once again opened for business in mid-August 2016. There are currently five rooms open for guests, all newly decorated and with brand new en suite shower rooms. Some offer views of the mountains and sea. There is an attractive lounge containing books and games for guests to use. The lounge also contains our bar where we sell beers and ciders from small Welsh breweries, as well as the usual wines and spirits. Byrdir House is within walking distance of the famous Harlech Castle (around 250 yards) and in easy reach of the beautiful beach and Royal St David's Golf Course. It makes a fine base from which to explore Gwynedd and its many attractions, including Snowdonia, Portmeirion and numerous preserved steam railways.

Neighbourhood information

The home of mythological kings and great Welsh princes, beautiful Harlech lies between rugged mountain peaks, crystal clear lakes and long sandy beaches. Yet the breathtaking scenery is not all the town has to offer – a break in Harlech will never be dull. The more active can enjoy walking and cycling in Snowdonia National Park, nearby white water rafting, horse riding and pony trekking, and the town's own leisure centre with its swimming pool and climbing wall. Harlech is home to Royal St David's, one of the top golf courses in Wales, and many more stunning courses lie within easy reach. For the sightseer, some of the greatest medieval castles in the UK lie in Gwynedd, as well as a host of heritage steam railways, the famous village of Portmeirion and nearby slate caverns. There are a number of small, local breweries offering a host of interesting ales, a variety of restaurants and one of the most stunning beaches you will ever set your eyes on. With a backdrop of mountain views, the unspoilt beach is surrounded by beautiful dunes and is a National Nature Reserve. Above all, it is is an ideal place for play and relaxation.
