Stay in your own self-contained apartment in the heart of historic Lewes.
This lower ground floor apartment is part of a beautifully restored 1821 Georgian Regency townhouse, formerly the Sussex Probate Registry and later a boutique hotel. Now a private residence, the property offers a small number of exclusive guest rooms — and this one unique self-contained apartment.
Accessed via a gate from pavement level and a short flight of steps, the apartment includes a comfortable living room, a compact kitchen, a double bedroom, and a shower room. Guests enjoy full privacy in their own space, but do not have access to the rest of the house.
Perfect for short stays, this peaceful and characterful apartment offers a refined base from which to explore all that Lewes has to offer.
We’re a semi-retired couple living in a beautifully restored Georgian townhouse in the heart of Lewes. The house has a rich history — originally built in 1821, it later served as the Sussex Probate Registry and more recently as a boutique hotel. Now a private residence, we’re pleased to offer a small number of exclusive guest spaces to short-term visitors.
Guests can choose between a private guest room with en-suite in the house itself or a fully self-contained lower ground floor apartment with its own entrance via a small set of steps from street level. Both options offer a quiet, comfortable stay in a unique and historic setting.
We’re always happy to recommend local walks, cafés, and places of interest — or simply leave you to enjoy your time in peace.
Our home is set in the heart of historic Lewes, just 10 yards from the charming High Street with its independent shops, coffee houses, pubs, and restaurants — all within a few minutes’ walk. Lewes Castle is just a 5-minute stroll away, and the beautiful open-air Pells Pool is around 10 minutes on foot. The train station is easily reached in 8–10 minutes via a level walk, or slightly faster if you're comfortable with a short hill.
Lewes is rich in history and atmosphere, offering everything from medieval architecture to modern artisan cafés. It’s also the perfect base for exploring Glyndebourne Opera House, the Love Supreme Jazz Festival, and the South Downs National Park. Brighton is just a short, direct train ride away, and Gatwick Airport can be reached in around 30 minutes by direct train — making Lewes an ideal location for both relaxing breaks and wider travel.
