Nestled in the picturesque village of Askrigg, our property offers a peaceful, slightly secluded retreat in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Known for its charming character and rich history, Askrigg gained fame as the filming location for the original BBC series All Creatures Great and Small, celebrating the life of James Herriot. The latest series was also shot locally, with scenes filmed at The Green Dragon Inn in Hawdraw, further highlighting the area's cinematic appeal. This connection to Herriot Country enhances the authentic rural experience visitors seek.
Within the village, three welcoming pubs serve delicious food at lunch and dinner. The Crown Inn, just across the road, offers hearty takeaway home-cooked meals, perfect for a cosy night in. The Kings Arms, featured as The Drovers Pub in the series, retains many of its historic features, providing a charming atmosphere. The Middle House Hotel boasts a cosy bar and a conservatory restaurant overlooking lush gardens. For gourmet treats and essentials, guests can visit The Bake Well, a top local deli offering freshly made pies, quiches, salads, and takeaway meals. The village also features a craft shop and a well-stocked shop selling groceries and daily necessities, making it easy to enjoy a true village experience.
