Welcome to Church Cottage – a cosy retreat full of charm and character. As you arrive, mind your head—Church Cottage has a delightfully low doorway! Step inside and you’ll find yourself in the heart of the home: a well-equipped BRAND NEW kitchen and dining area, perfect for cooking, chatting, and enjoying time together. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is here, including a separate pantry and a handy cupboard stocked with everyday essentials. And don’t forget to peek at the floor—you might just spot a gravestone set into the old quarry tiles, adding a unique touch of history. From the kitchen, the original tiled floor leads into the snug living room with its open fire and comfy Joules sofa. Whether you’re curling up with a book, catching up on TV, or simply watching the peaceful churchyard from the window seat, it’s a perfect place to unwind. And yes, we’ve got superfast WiFi for all your browsing needs. Back in our new kitchen, a narrow, steep staircase leads up to the bedrooms and bathroom. The master bedroom is spacious and inviting, featuring a super king bed with a sumptuous NEW mattress to ensure a restful night’s sleep. Look up and you’ll spot ancient rafters peeking through the paint—just one of the many lovely period features. If you’re visiting on a Sunday morning, you might even wake to the sound of church bells ringing, best enjoyed with a cup of tea in bed. The second bedroom offers a cosy double bed, again with a NEW mattress and a charming low window with peaceful views across the churchyard. The bathroom may be compact, but it’s the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing soak in the bathtub. While there’s no walk-in shower, the handheld shower over the bath works well for freshening up. You’ll also find an airing cupboard stocked with extra bedding and towels for your comfort. A warm welcome awaits!
Hello, my name is David, and welcome to Church Cottage. We are a family who have lived in Towcester for 18 years, so we know the area quite well! Our family home is right next door to the cottage, which is where you'll be able to park - there was no need for a driveway 200 years ago! If you need anything or have any questions, then we're available most of the time. We love the history that Towcester has to offer and apart from a pub on the edge of town, Church Cottage is the only remaining thatched property in Towcester. We fell in love with it and so so promptly bought it when it came up for sale in 2011! We hope you also will love its quirky character too. We'll leave a bit about its history for you to catch up on during your stay. Please don't hesitate to call us if you need anything. Kindest regards David, Sam and April.
Being an ex-Alms House, Church Cottage is a delightful 2-bedroom thatched cottage nestled in a peaceful churchyard location, yet only a one minute walk to the vibrant Towcester town centre. Brimming with period charm, this characterful home features exposed beams, cosy living spaces, and a tranquil atmosphere. Enjoy the best of both worlds—seclusion and convenience—with pubs, shops, cafés, and amenities just moments away. A rare opportunity to enjoy historic charm in the heart of town. Towcester has some wonderful history and plenty of choice when it comes to hospitality. The church itself is steeped in history, and open most of the time for you to explore. Towcester museum offers an insight to a rich history that dates back to roman times and before. Again it's less than a five minute walk from Church Cottage. A real local gem, the Towcester Mill Brewery is just a stone’s throw away. Enjoy a drink in the cosy taproom or unwind in the beer garden—it's the perfect place to sample their locally brewed beers. Behind the brewery, you’ll find the Water Meadows, open to the public and ideal for a peaceful walk. Why not work up a thirst before heading in? There are plenty of other attractions, restaurants, cafes and pubs in Towcester. We'll provide a guide for when you arrive, but if you need any recommendations then we'll only be too glad to help.
