The original building of the Red Barns, which the B&B is part of has quite a history. It was built in 1870 for a wealthy industrialist Sir Hugh Bell, designed by the architect Phillip Webb with interiors designed by William Morris, the founders of the Arts & Crafts movement in the UK. Red Barns most famous resident was Gertrude Bell a 'Scholar, Traveller and peace maker. A friend to the Arabs.' which is shown on a Blue Plaque on front of the B&B. It was for many years a boarding school for Sir Williams Turners Grammar School. It then became a family pub and hotel until 2013.
We are both from Redcar and would be happy to share our knowledge of the Red Barns and answer any questions you may have during your stay.
