Ridge Farm Annexe is the perfect place for a peaceful, romantic holiday or short break in a 'home away from home'. We provide comfortable, beautifully furnished accommodation for two people (perhaps accompanied by a baby or small child) in an idyllic setting in North Dorset, UK, within easy reach of the Jurassic Coast and many other places of interest in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire.
Madeline and Mark have been married for 49 years and have lived at Ridge Farm since 1980. We look forward to sharing it with you during your visit. Madeline trained as a cook and is a keen upholsterer. Among other jobs in the past she has worked for a picture framer and a specialist china shop. Mark has been self-employed since 1973. He has worked as a writer, photographer, designer and IT consultant and is now semi-retired.
Madeline and Mark will generally be on hand to offer local advice if required. If there is anything you need you only have to ask. The annexe sitting room opens onto a shared patio and we may well find ourselves getting together for a drink on a nice summer evening.
We are well placed for exploring Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset. Nearby are the old market towns of Sturminster Newton and and Sherborne (formerly the capital of Wessex), with its abbey and two castles. Places well worth visiting include Athelhampton House near Dorchester, Stourhead Gardens, Longleat House and Safari Park, Montacute House, and the picturesque towns of Wells, Glastonbury and Bath, not forgetting, of course, West Bay near Bridport, home of the TV program Broadchurch.
We are close to a number of SSSIs, and our garden is visited by a variety of wildlife. Alner's Gorse, a local butterfly sanctuary is a short walk down a green lane. We also maintain a small flock of sheep and in the spring there may be lambs in our paddocks.
This being a rural situation you will need a car in order to get around. Public transport is very limited. The nearest stations are at Sherborne (8m), Gillingham (15m), Dorchester (15m) and Yeovil (15m).
