Riverside Loft is a unique space at our home with ample parking, private entrance, a super spacious open plan living/dining and sleeping area upstairs to stretch out and relax in, and a kitchenette and shower room on the ground floor.
Guests frequently comment on the tranquility and the comfy beds along with the wee extras and homely touches to help to make you feel welcome after a long journey. Red squirrels and birds can be seen and heard from the upstairs window and the garden area - if you are very quiet!
The loft keeps warm and super cosy for those out of season breaks, close to Glencoe, Oban and Fort William and adjacent to the Caledonia Way National Cycling Route 78 through the forest at Sutherland's Grove with plenty of woodland walks directly from the door.
Comfortable, spacious and relaxing. Peace and quiet. Ample parking.
The Loft is a completely private part of our home nestled quietly in the forest among the wildlife and gently soothed by the sound of the small river at the foot of the garden. We offer a relaxing experience in a quiet space to stay in comfort after a day spent discovering beautiful Argyll and the Highlands and Islands.
We enjoy woodland walks and cycling directly from the door to Sutherland's Grove and the cycle paths. There is a beach across the road at Loch Creran to watch the sunset or take a short drive/cycle to the famous Castle Stalker at Appin or to Tralee Bay beach at Benderloch. Highland cows often grazing at the top of the loch a short drive or cycle from the door. The local herd of Highland cows can be visited on foot with an opportunity to sample ice cream made from their milk, quite unique.
Local islands of Lismore and Kerrera are small enough to explore in a day and the port town of Oban is less than half an hour away for the Isle of Mull and beyond.
Glencoe is a similar distance in the other direction for spectacular scenery, mountains and the hidden valley. Fort William is a little further and the scenic drive up the west coast is spectacular offering the opportunity to pop over the Corran Ferry to Ardnamurchan.
A lovely corner of Argyll, nestled quietly in the forest close to lochs, hills and glens. Ideal base for touring Oban, Glencoe, Fort William and the West Coast.
Parking to front of property beside the flowers on the gravel drive. A car is almost essential to take advantage of the stunning west coast of Scotland.
Whether you are looking to stay here as a base for onward travels or to park the car and walk/cycle along the local paths we are perfectly situated. Loch Creran is a short walk at the end of the road and about 15 minutes drive to Castle Stalker and the amazing views and sunsets from there and from Port Appin.
You can spend a day on each of the local islands - Lismore is perfect for cycling from the Port Appin ferry and Kerrera for walking around from the wee ferry at Oban. You can access the Isle of Mull and onwards from the ferry port of Oban or take a shorter trip to see the wildlife; seals, porpoises and more.
There is a limited bus service to Oban/Fort William, perhaps one or two buses daily - check Citylink or West Coast Motors buses, and an hourly service from Benderloch to Oban.
The cycle path is on the doorstep.
Trains from Oban (Connel Ferry is our nearest station about 20 minutes away) to Glasgow, check Scotrail for latest updates.
Connel Airport is about 15 minutes for the small plane to the islands of Coll and Tiree.
Ferries to Mull are popular from Oban, full service available from Caledonian MacBrayne. Smaller ferries for foot passengers to the Isle of Lismore or the Isle of Kerrera are about half an hour from here and ideal for a day trip.
There are restaurants and cafes in the adjacent villages and in the larger towns of Oban and Fort William. The closest to Barcaldine is either the Creagan Inn, Castle Stalker View Cafe & shop or for seafood The Pierhouse Hotel at Port Appin and steaks at the Old Inn, Appin. We have more information in our guest book, we do advise that you check opening times and make reservations.
