There is much to discover by just wandering around the quaint and narrow streets, such as the independent shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants, cottage businesses, exhibitions and historical buildings, some dating back to the 15th Century. Walking in the area is quite outstanding, in every direction, through countless hidden valleys with streams, wooded hillsides and breath-taking views.
1 Spring Cottage is just a few minutes walk from two pubs, both of which serve food, a restaurant and an award winning hotel with a celebrated chef and serving fantastic cocktails in elegant surroundings with fabulous views, inside and out.
Explore the streets of Painswick with a self-guided Murder Mystery themed walking tour: a fun way to explore this beautiful town. The town and local area has been home to a great many filming locations including J.K. Rowling's novel The Casual Vacancy, filmed in Painswick and other locations in the Cotswolds and nearby Gloucester Cathedral.
Enjoy a trip to the nearby Rococo Gardens, Woodchester Mansion and Chavenge House, a film location for several productions, most notably as Poldark's Trenwith (2015–2019) and in the 2024 Disney+ series Rivals. It also served as Candleford Manor in the BBC's Lark Rise to Candleford and appeared in Tess of the D'Urbervilles (2008) and the historical drama Wolf Hall, as well as Berkeley Castle and Stanway House.
