Our comfortable, quiet Shepherd's Hut is on the outskirts of Long Marton village, in a tranquil and peaceful location. There are beautiful views in every direction, from the Lake District fells to the stunning Pennines, which makes us easily accessible to both. We built the Hut from a kit we bought from Glampods UK. We have insulated it with fleeces from our own Dutch Spotted Sheep, which keeps it warm in Winter and cool in the Summer. There's a comfy double bed, indoor seating, microwave, kettle, mini-fridge and toaster. We also supply all bed linen, towels, cups, glasses, plates and cutlery. The bathroom is a short walk, from the hut, where there is a wc, hand basin and large rainfall shower. There's outdoor seating, so you can sit back and chill in the peaceful surroundings. On a clear night the stars are amazing, no light pollution here! All in all, it's quite the romantic getaway! We're also dog friendly, so you can bring you best friend along too. We just ask that you keep them under control and on a lead, just because we have sheep, horses, a cat and dog too!
We look forward to welcoming you to our lovely Shepherd's Hut and sharing this very special place. You'll be able to meet our friendly Dutch Spotted Sheep and I'm sure Tilly the cat will want to say hello, as will Eddy the dog!
Long Marton is a lovely, traditional Eden Valley village with a friendly, local pub, The Masons Arms, which serves lovely food to eat in or take out, and is only a short walk from the hut. Booking is recommended if you wish to eat in. There are lots of country lanes for walking or cycling. The next village along, Dufton, is where you'll find the famous High Cup Nick. Dufton also hosts a friendly village pub, The Stag Inn, where you can enjoy a welcome pint and a bite to eat after your walk up High Cup Nick or Dufton Pike. Only 30 minutes away is the beautiful and dramatic Lake District, where there are plenty of places to walk, cycle and visit, even on a wet day! The North Yorkshire Moors aren't too far away either. A bit closer is the market town of Appleby, which holds an open market every Saturday and you can also visit the historic Appleby Castle. For those interested in trains, the Carlisle to Settle railway runs along the bottom of our fields and during the summer you can see steam trains running on a Saturday and Tuesday. There is also the Staycation Express which runs along the Carlisle to Settle line from July to September, you can board this from Appleby Station.
