Nestled in the quiet hamlet of Roger Ground is The Blue Duck, an ideal location for exploring the well-known Lake District sights or for enjoying hikes straight from your door. The Blue Duck has been refurbished to a high standard and is ideal for a couple with or without a canine friend.
Within walking distance of Hawkshead with its historic buildings and welcoming hostelries, The Blue Duck is well situated as a peaceful retreat or as a jumping off point for further exploration of iconic places such as Ambleside, Coniston, Grasmere and Beatrix Potter’s house at Far Sawrey.
The Blue Duck has a well-equipped kitchen in which to rustle up your favourite meals and you can eat inside or on the patio with its distant views of Esthwaite Water, or walk across the fields into Hawkshead and enjoy a meal there. The Blue Duck offers a range of board games as well as Netflix for those cosy evenings in front of the log burning stove and is a perfect place to unwind after a day’s hiking or exploring. There are also maps and walking books for you to use to plan your next adventure.
The Blue Duck has its own dedicated parking space opposite the property and is accessed up five steps to the kitchen door of the cottage.

Venturing a short distance away, you'll discover the picturesque village of Hawkshead, offering a variety of excellent restaurants. For the adventurous souls, there's the "Go Ape" experience in nearby Grizedale. You can also explore the nearby Claife Viewing Station, Windermere West Shore, and Holehird Gardens.
Hawkshead, where the allure that once captivated its most famous residents, William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, still thrives. As you explore, you'll find yourself wandering through a treasure trove of narrow alleyways, quaint thoroughfares, charming archways, and delightful courtyards nestled amidst the whitewashed 17th-century houses.
This village boasts an array of inviting inns, cosy teashops, welcoming guest houses, and delightful gift shops waiting to be discovered. Don't miss the Beatrix Potter Gallery, home to an ever-changing exhibition showcasing the renowned author's captivating illustrations and stories.
As for the other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, he attended the Old Grammar School from 1779 to 1787, a historic building that still stands proudly today. You can step inside and visit the very place where the Lakeland poet cultivated his love for the art of poetry. You might even catch a glimpse of the desk where a young Wordsworth etched his name!
If you venture just ten miles away to Newby Bridge, you'll find even more attractions to enjoy, including the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, which offer daily sailings between Ambleside, Bowness, and Lakeside.
