Rural Retreats was founded in 1985 with the aim of making the countryside more accessible for holidaymakers and giving them the best possible choice of holiday homes across the UK.
Rural Retreats’ continuing success is based on excellent local knowledge and painstaking research, together with a flair for finding delightful and unusual properties. All of this has enabled us to build a portfolio of over 450 exceptionally fine holiday homes in stunningly beautiful locations, all available for you to rent.

Situated within easy reach of Oxford and within an hour train journey from London Paddington. The Loft is set in beautifully landscaped gardens surrounded by five acres of farmland where the owners maintain free range chickens and a small flock of Welsh Halfbred sheep who may wish to say hello to you in the mornings!

Take a day trip to Reading (11 miles), hosting an array of shops with everything you could want all in one place; from quirky boutiques to independent stores sitting alongside the major high street brands.
Oxford (20 miles) is home to a variety of places to visit including the popular Pitt Rivers Museum and Oxford Castle or explore Oxford by bicycle. Footprints Tours offer a range of tours which enable you to see all of what Oxford have to offer taking in all 38 colleges which wouldn't be possible on foot.
Explore Wallingford, situated on the banks of the River Thames, home of the town museum with Agatha Christie's home and boathouse nearby. Enjoy the Cholsey and Wallingford Steam Railway, or a walk around the ruins of Wallingford Castle, once one of the largest in the country but largely destroyed by Oliver Cromwell. Wallingford was also home to the filming of popular television show Midsomer Murders as the fictional town of Causton, home to the main character Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby. Props and articles that were used in the show can be found in the town museum.
Visit the historic homes of Basildon Park and Grey's Court or the popular Highclere Castle home to the television show Downton Abbey.
For racing enthusiasts, Ascot, Newbury and the Royal Windsor racecourses are all within easy distance whilst Goring and Streatley Golf Club is just a 10-minute drive for those who would like a relaxing 18 hole, par 71 golf course.
