Steve is a father-of-two and runs The Old Bakehouse with his wife Fiona. His passions are cycling, country walks and listening to vinyl records. Steve and his wife both live at the guesthouse and are happy to answer any questions ahead of visits.

The historic Old Bakehouse combines grandeur with all the traditional comforts of a country guest house. Our four bedrooms have been lovingly updated, each with their own signature style, but all staying true to the building’s original 19th century roots.
Set in the heart of a charming rural town, the Old Bakehouse is the ideal base to explore the delightful attractions of East Devon and nearby Dorset coastline.
Every morning start your day with a hearty cooked breakfast or enjoy a range of fresh fruits, cereals and breads in our dining room. Then plan your days out in the beautiful Axe Valley or visit the nearby Jurassic Coast for swimming, fossil hunting or spectacular cliff-top walks.
Later, you can also relax in the lounge, browse our extensive bookshelves or listen to vinyl on our record player.
Our three double rooms and one twin room include free wi-fi, TV with Freeview and tea and coffee facilities. Cyclists can secure their bikes inside the building.

Colyton is a pretty and charming historic town, nestling in an area of outstanding natural beauty and a gateway to some of the best beaches on the famous Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Popular with families, walkers and cyclists, Colyton is also known as the most rebellious town in Devon for its role in the Monmouth Rebellion in 1685. You can find out more about its colourful past at the local Heritage Centre.
Today, Colyton has a population of just over 2,000 people with a wide range of amenities, including pubs, cafes, a butcher, fishmonger, general store with post office, garden shop, pet accessories shop, pharmacy and cycle shop. The focal point of the town is the Church of St Andrew, established in Norman times.
A big attraction is the recently established Seaton Tramway, which stops at nearby Kingsdon on the other side of the River Coly, just a short walk from The Old Bakehouse and Cottage.
A total of 14 different trams run along the line through East Devon’s truly lovely Axe Valley, starting in the seaside town of Seaton, about two miles from Colyton. There is also a bus service which runs through Colyton and serves Seaton, Beer and Axminster
