The Old Mill is a property that dates back to the 14th century and is an intact flour mill with a millers cottage attached. The accommodation is in the cottage although we do hope to renovate the mill for other accommodation soon.
This is a very unique property and of course you have the added beauty of the river at the end of the garden where you can walk or fish and see a host of amazing wildlife.
Kingfishers, tree creepers, wagtails, nuthatches and possibly an otter.
We will shortly be offering holiday let's as well as bed and breakfast and will have a shepherds hut for accommodation overlooking the river in June.
Linda and Kevin ran a bed and breakfast in Northamptonshire for 15 years before they bought the Old Mill at Jacobstowe in October 2018 and have been updating it ever since.
The two cottage, The old mill and The millers cottage are now fully renovated and available to let for holidays, we also have a shepherds hut available to let in the garden overlooking the river.
The watermill itself is totally intact and has now also been renovated and is where Linda and Kevin now live. There are two grinding stones and all the workings are inside the mill and can be viewed by guests if they are interested. The two water wheels can be clearly seen from the river bank and from the garden of The millers cottage. The Mill was a flour mill from the 15th century and used as a saw mills during the 1960's and 1970's.
We are returning to this area after being away for about 40 years so much has changed and we have forgotten what the area has to offer but we are looking forward to exploring and reminding ourselves of what is here.
Dartmoor is an amazing sight and we are looking forward to walking there. The river okement which runs past our property is incredible and changing every day, we do have fishing rights on a lovely stretch of the river which we will offer to our guests. Wildlife is in abundance here on the river, we have many species of wild birds including, nuthatch siskins, goldcrests, goldfinches, bluetits, great tits, wagtails, goosanders, heron, dippers, woodpeckers and kingfishers. We have wildlife cameras on the river and frequently see otters, foxes and deer coming to the water to drink and catch fish.
We have lots of national trust properties close by, castle Drogo being the closest, finch foundry another water mill and many more. The beaches are not far either, Bude is 30 minutes. North Devon coast and south Devon coasts are about 45 minutes. There is a cinema in Okehampton and there are theatres in Torrington, Exeter and Plymouth. The foot path beyond our property links to the tarka trail for walking or cycling.
