周辺エリアの情報
Perfectly located to enjoy countless footpaths and bridleways, starry skies, and access to three of the finest national landscapes in the country, the village of Slaggyford and its surrounding area has plenty to offer those seeking a countryside retreat. Nestled in the South Tyne valley, often called the Tyne Gap, in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it makes an excellent base for long days spent rambling across sweeping moors and through lush woodlands. The iconic long-distance trail of the Pennine Way passes through the village itself, while the must-visit scenery of Hadrian’s Wall country is on your doorstep.
The charming market town of Haltwhistle lies a 20-minute drive to the north and is the closest to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall. Keen historians will enjoy exploring the well-preserved Roman forts of Vindolanda and Housesteads, alongside their excellent museums, while walkers have access to the Hadrian’s Wall National Trail which stretches 84 miles from coast to coast. The Pennine Way also passes through Haltwhistle, creating a nearby intersection between two of the finest long-distance trails to be enjoyed in Britain.
There are also plenty of exceptional towns, historic sites, and national parks to be explored a little further afield. A beautiful 40-minute drive will take you to the market town of Penrith and the north-east of the Lake District National Park, including the stunning glacial lake of Ullswater and the mountain peak of Skiddaw. Meanwhile, a 30-minute drive will place you amidst the rolling hills of the Northumberland National Park in the most sparsely populated region in England, where you’ll find thriving wildlife, charming village pubs, and the largest expanse of protected dark skies in Europe.
