Mid way between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District and in the heart of the Lune Valley, the attractive market town of Kirkby Lonsdale makes an excellent spot for a family vacation. Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, this lovely town holds a 13th Century market charter, a tradition that still continues every Thursday. Market day is an ideal opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive shops in the town or the many 17th and 18th Century buildings that can be seen throughout the settlement. As a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, the Lune Valley is home to the medieval â˜Devil's Bridge', which can still be seen spanning the river. Throughout the area there are many quiet country lanes which are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even on horseback, and the surrounding countryside provides great facilities for tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks.
