Neighbourhood information
Centrally situated in Suffolk, the coastal towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh, RSPB Minsmere and the cities of Norwich and Cambridge are no more than forty five minutes away. But so too is the rest of Suffolk: Historic Bury St Edmunds, the wealthy mediaeval wool towns of Long Melford and Lavenham, unspoilt villages like Debenham and Halesworth, stately homes and gardens, dozens of grade one listed churches (the village church has the finest single hammer beam roof in the country) and a vast assortment of other things to see and do.
If you fancy a trip to the coast, the charming town of Aldeburgh, made famous for its connections with composer Benjamin Britten, the coastal town of Aldeburgh truly has something for everyone. With a wonderful selection of restaurants, bakeries, delis and tea rooms, Aldeburgh is foodie heaven. The Suffolk Sur-Mer, The Lighthouse and Regatta all serve beautifully prepared seasonal produce, or could you be tempted by the Suffolk inspired Indian cuisine at Sea Spice or zingy Thai food from the Thai Street Café? If opting to dine at home no meal would be complete without some fresh smoked fish from one of the many fishing huts or hand-selected cheese from Lawson's Deli. Before heading home sampling the renowned Aldeburgh fish and chips is a must.
If you feel like venturing further afield the surrounding area has lots to offer. Snape Maltings hosts a variety of events throughout the year including the Aldeburgh Festival and boasts a selection of independent shops, cafes and galleries. Travelling along the coast, Southwold and Walberswick both make for a fun-filled day of sandy toes and plenty of ice cream. For a quieter pace of life, explore Suffolk on foot following one of the many footpaths. The Sailors' Path from Aldeburgh to Snape takes in some breathtaking views of the Alde estuary and completion of the walk can be celebrated with a pint (or whatever your tipple) at one of Snape's three pubs.
