Welcome to Uplands, your rural idyll in the Herefordshire countryside. We discovered this 16th-century Elizabethan Manor House in the summer of 2016, slumbering behind an overgrown hedge, hidden from view, looking neglected and very tired. We moved into the property in February 2017 and set about a full program of sympathetic restoration works to update and renovate the house along with the four acres of overgrown gardens - something we continue to do every day! We wanted to create a unique space to showcase all of our finds from 30 years of antique dealing. Having spent a great deal of time on the road and staying in many hotels and guest houses along the way, we know what we like and what we think is needed to make our guest house stand out to give our own guests an unforgettable experience - in fact we wanted to make this a real home away from home. There is a choice of four beautifully appointed, spacious guest bedroom suites furnished throughout with period antiques and an eclectic collection of modern and antique original artwork. All of our rooms have private classic bathrooms, with Carrera marble tiles, equipped with a bathtub and overhead shower. Each room is provided with tea and coffee making facilities, bottled water, a hair dryer, dressing gowns, and complimentary eco toiletries. Superfast fibre WiFi is available throughout the property. The dining room where breakfast is served is situated just off the reception hallway, or breakfast can be enjoyed on the south-facing terrace on warm sunny mornings where delicious cooked and continental breakfasts are offered using a range of seasonal homegrown - from the extensive kitchen garden - or locally sourced produce, including homemade preserves, Hereford sausages from the local butcher, locally produced thick sliced smoked bacon, Uplands free range eggs and organic apple juice (from our orchard) with vegetarian and vegan options always available.
We are no strangers to hosting, having previously run a successful manor house bed and breakfast business in France. Stuart is an ex-chef and still has a great passion and flair for cooking. I look after the front of house and will ensure that all our guests' needs are met. We both live in a designated part of the house with our two lively rescue dogs. Nothing is too much trouble for our guests, and we will always be on hand to help where we can. We are slowly retiring from a busy antiques dealing career and enjoy spending time in the gardens where we continue to develop, improve and maintain the grounds.
Uplands is situated overlooking blueberry fields and undulating countryside on a quiet country lane within the parish of Wellington Heath, 2 miles from the bustling market town of Ledbury with its independent and artisan shops and its very own Michelin Star restaurant, 33 The Homend. Eastnor Castle is just a few minutes’ drive away - perfect if you are attending an event or concert and do not fancy the glamping experience! There are country pubs in every direction, and we are close to Malvern and the Malvern Hills, an AONB. The Three Counties showground is just 20 minutes’ drive from us. There is easy access to the larger towns and cities of Hereford, Gloucester, Ludlow and Worcester and we are within an hours' drive of Cheltenham and Hay-on-Wye with their various racing events and cultural festivals. Tewkesbury is easily reached (with its soon to be opened designer outlet centre) and onwards towards the south Cotswolds.
