The Old Police Station was built in 1886 and served as the Town (and for a while the County) Police Station until 1977.
Emma and Ziggy purchased the building from the Royal British Legion in October 2021 and have been tastefully renovating the building ever since.
We currently rent out 2 suites and this one includes 2 police cells that have been tastefully renovated into a bedroom, kitchenette and shower room. It is a unique and interesting experience.
We are still working around other parts of the house and will have our small garden ready in the Spring, which has a view over to the castle and across the Kensey Valley.
We have a large barn to the rear of the house where you will currently find space to park your car. We will be renovating this building in the future to create a self contained separate property.
It is a beautiful building, perfectly situated to be only a couple of minutes walk into the town centre yet out of the way enough to be very peaceful at night and away from the central hubbub.
Emma and Ziggy are father and daughter.
Ziggy is a very gifted and experienced cabinet maker which has been his passion for the past 7 decades. He is also a luthier, making bespoke handmade guitars to order, and has been doing interior design and making fine furniture throughout his career. Ziggy also plays the guitar and Emma and Ziggy often play together.
Emma works in psychology, and runs a peer led organisation that runs groups/workshops in the community for people with PTSD/trauma and teaches people to work in mental health services.
She is also a singer/songwriter and runs Launceston Folk club that hosts nationally and internationally acclaimed musicians, twice a month, as well as music groups and events in town and at Morwellham Quay, while also raising funds for the work in the community via the Folk Club.
Emma's eldest and youngest sons also live with them, when they are not at University.
Launceston is a beautiful, ancient town that used to be the County town and housed the Royal Mint for a time. It is situated between Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor and there are views across both moors from the park at the top of town.
Launceston Castle is a Norman castle and can be seen for miles around. We have a view from the Old Police Station.
Launceston has some stunning architecture with one of the highest number of listed buildings in the country.
Launceston boasts the only surviving, intact, packhorse foot bridge in the country and St Mary Magdelene church is the most highly carved church.
Launceston has some unique family run shops, plenty of cafes, and hairdressers, and everything you need is within 2 to 5 minutes' walk of the house.
There are restaurants and takeaways and fabulous pubs, including the ancient Bell Inn which is a real ale pub hosting regular music as well as impromptu shanty and folk nights!
There is a large Tesco and a retail park and a coop in town that is 4 minutes' walk away and is open until 10pm every night.
We lovely living here in this friendly community and look forward to welcoming you too!
