Our property was built in 1886 and served as the County Police Station until 1977.
We still have the original Victorian Police cells with original doors and features onsite. The cells have been renovated and we are now renting those out to guests as well! The building is solid stone/slate with the original sash windows and has all the wonderful quirks and character of a beautiful old building.
We are very fortunate to have some stunning views across the Kensey Valley, Lanstefan (St Stephens), and Launceston Castle, as well as to live in a very quiet part of town, despite being minutes walk from the medieval town market square, the castle, and the shops!
If you need to get a taxi or you come without a car, and need a lift somewhere within a reasonable distance, please do feel free to ask Emma or Ziggy for a lift as we have been happy to oblige, if we are about when you need to go out!
We are working our way around the building, improving and restoring it to its former glory as well as the outside spaces, which we will be working on in 2025.
We are fortunate to have a private car park at the rear of the property and a barn, that used to house the police horses and carriages, which functions as a car port at the moment. We will be converting this into further accommodation, eventually.
We feel very privileged to be the current custodians of the Old Police Station and hope, very much, that you will enjoy your stay with us!
My Dad (Ziggy) and I, jointly own the Old Police Station. Ziggy is a very gifted cabinet maker, interior designer, luthier, artist, and musician. Emma is also a musician, and has a varied career as a psychologist, art historian, consultant trainer, and artist/crafter.
Emma runs the successful Launceston Folk Club that runs 2-3 events every month. We have had some amazing musicians coming to Launceston, many of whom have also stayed with us including, Fairport Convention, Peter Knight's Gigspanner, Ric Sanders & Vo Fletcher, Martin Carthy, Anna Ryder, Mike Silver, Steve Tilston, Emily Slade, Jim Causley, The Stowes, Sarah McQuaid, and others. So do ask us about the 2025 programmes, if that interests you.
We love being part of the local music scene, regularly playing live at the local Bell Inn (you must go there when you stay ;) ) on the second Sunday of the month. There are lots of local music nights in Launceston and Emma runs some of the Wednesday music nights at Launceston's own artisan brewery, Firebrand Taproom.
We love meeting people and sharing our renovation project journey with those who are interested.
We are friendly and approachable so, please, do come and ask us if you need anything or want to know more about the local area, attractions, and businesses. Also, do let us know if you have any continental breakfast preferences. We generally supply things like Croissants, cereals, Jam, Butter, Tea, Coffee, Milk, which are in your room when you arrive, but please let us know if you prefer something else. We cannot provide cooked breakfast but can recommend local cafes where you can find a nice breakfast.
We look forward to meeting you! :)
There is so much to do both in Launceston and within a short distance. The town itself is full of friendly and welcoming people and you will find people most helpful.
We like to use local businesses so, if you see something in the house you like the look of, we can point you in the direction of the business who made it!
We are situated in between Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor and only 20 minutes or so from the coast and from amazing places such as Tintagel Castle and Boscastle, on the north coast!
