What we love about Woodland Retreat are the peaceful surroundings. Located with other units in 100 acres of woodland for you to wander in, it's an oasis of calm after a day out exploring St. Ives and all the other wonderful places there are to visit in this special part of Cornwall, all of which are really accessible from the chalet.
The interior of the chalet has been tastefully designed to maximise space and allow lots of light and we hope that we provide everything that you need for a comfortable, self-catering holiday. We have furnished it simply, with bits of vintage to bring it alive, and there are plenty of dvd's and books as well as some toys and games for children.
We are making sustainable choices to become more environmentally friendly, so as well as the thorough eco-friendly clean before your stay, we have swapped certain household products for renewable, biodegradable and recyclable products, which you will find in the property.
Outside there is a picnic bench, discreetly screened, which is a lovely place to have breakfast, and eat alfresco on summer evenings.
A small shop is open throughout the season and there is a launderette on site.
There is an entertainment complex, with heated indoor pool, sauna and amusements - you can purchase passes from Reception for these facilities. There is a bar and restaurant on site, with outside seating.
A bus goes regularly from the site to St Ives and to Penzance, hourly in season.
We really want you to enjoy staying at Woodland Retreat as much as we do! We love to walk, swim and surf - as well as laze about and visit galleries and eat out in the many fabulous restaurants in the locality. We have recommended one or two of our favourites in our Welcome Guide which you will find in the chalet. We often take the bus to St. Ives in the evenings which makes for a relaxing night out. We also like looking for antique bargains!
But also the chalet is a lovely place in which to stay put and unwind - to walk in the woodland, where children can play on the swings and zip wire, use the indoor pool, and then prepare meals at home.
The chalet is perfectly placed for exploring the southern tip of Cornwall. St. Ives, long the artistic hub of Cornwall, is a 7 minute drive, with The Tate Gallery, Barbara Hepworth Museum and Leach Pottery, as well as many smaller galleries and craft shops. Penlee House Gallery and Museum in Penzance, and Newlyn Art Gallery are nearby too. Then there's Marazion, St. Michael's Mount, the Minack Theatre, and many tiny coves for you to discover. The list goes on!
Carbis Bay Beach, a lovely, long sandy beach, is a 5 minute drive away, and there are several great beaches in St. Ives where you can sunbathe or surf., as well as miles of sandy beaches at The Towans, beyond Hayle.
And after all that you can go to the Splatterdown Farm Shop, on the road just above the property, to stock up on fresh, local provisions - make sure to get the St. Ives bakery bread!
