This is a very pretty and well-equipped cottage in a beautiful and peaceful rural setting close to ancient woodlands. This is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but just 15 minutes drive from Bath with its unique historic attractions and Thermal Spa, and ten minutes from Bradford on Avon, a gem of a market town on the southern edge of the Cotswolds. You have your own garden to enjoy, a barbecue and table for four on the patio and wonderful walks on your doorstep. You are 20 minutes walk from the Kennet & Avon Canal, with bike, boat and canoe hire - and the River Avon for a dip on hot days, 15 minutes walk from Hartley Farm with a wonderful cafe/restaurant, local food shop, playground and petting zoo and 30 minutes walk from The Seven Stars at Winsley, a cosy pub with fantastic food. The cottage has all conveniences, including free WIFI for internet connection, a large flat screen tv, dvd and cd players, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, bedlinen and towels and is furnished with a mix of contemporary and old furniture. We leave you a good set of basics for cooking, plus a bottle of wine and a pack of biscuits to welcome you. Access is along very narrow country lanes.
We moved to this area over 30 years ago and think it’s unbeatable for the combination of vibrant cities and beautiful countryside. Bill was a film and television production designer with a passion for trees and treehouses. Stephanie worked in television, publishing and marketing.
Conkwell is an idyllic little hamlet surrounded by ancient woodland with far reaching views over the valley towards Bath. Bradford on Avon is an extraordinarily pretty little town with some of the most important historic buildings in the West Country, including the medieval Tithe Barn and the exquisite Saxon church. A great selection of places to eat from top class cuisine to quirky canal-side cafes and cosy pubs. Plus the weekly farmers market. Live music in pubs, cafes and the wonderful Wiltshire Music Centre, one of the best venues in the south west. Walk 20 minutes down to the canal and hire a bike or walk along the (nice and flat!) towpath into Bradford on Avon, Bath - or on to Bristol. This is a beautiful corner of England with rolling countryside, cosy pubs and fine country houses such as Longleat (with its Safari Park) and Stourhead - and easy access to Salisbury and Wells Cathedrals, and the Dorset and North Devon seaside beaches. 45 minutes to Stonehenge and Avebury. 40 minutes drive to Bristol - or 15 minutes on the train from Bath - for boat trips, abseiling, the new Brunel museum, the SS Great Britain, the Zoo. Lacock (Harry Potter) and Castle Combe 30 mins away.
