The unique landscape of Upper Međimurje is created by mild wine-growing hills, a fertile plains enclosed by powerful rivers and idyllic villages ornamented with flowers. The best way to get to know this green oasis, which is a part of the UNESCO Mura-Drava-Danube Biosphere Reserve, is by riding a bike on one of the most beautiful cycling routes in this area or walking the numerous thematic trails. Due to its charm and tidiness, this region is recognised as the ‘Garden of Croatia’. The northernmost point of Croatia is located near the village Žabnik, 5 minutes away from our house. One of the first worldwide oil field was discovered in Peklenica. Even today gold panning is as active as ever on the Mura and Drava sandbars, gold that is among the purest in the world! On the Međimurje wine road you will be greeted by gentle green hills sprinkled with vineyards and blooming orchards, exquisite wines and amazing wine tasting rooms that go hand in hand with traditional gastronomy specialties.
