When I finished secondary school in 1981 my interest in languages, cultures, traditions, art and vegetarian food took me to Paris, France 🇫🇷 to do Au pair for a year. I studied the French language, history and the vegetarian/veggie side of the French Cuisine. I loved living there so much I returned and got my own place and a job in a restaurant on the Champ-Élysées. I got to spend another year there to experience and learn about many different types of cultures, cuisines, music, dance, customs and listen to a diverse range of languages.
In the 1980’s I worked to travel and my journeys took me Switzerland, Italy and Spain. This all gave me the opportunity to learn to speak conversation Italian and Spanish and travel extensively throughout Europe.
When I moved to Tramore in 1993 with John and our one year old son Darragh. During Darragh’s primary school years, summertime we either hosted the Spanish and Italian students or we did Bed & Breakfast.
My profession now is an SNA in education at a primary school in Waterford City. Years and years later, I’m now delighted to welcome guests back to our home, ‘Ocean Joy House’, to experience the best beach town in Ireland.
Tramore is a seaside town in County Waterford, on the southeast coast of Ireland. We get the least rainfall and the most sunshine here.
It’s a very popular destination for surfing and other water sports due to its large sheltered bay. We have a tidal lagoon know as the “Backstrand”. and magnificent sand dunes all which have been designated a Special Area of Conservation and which you can see from Ocean Joy House.
The whole area is steeped in history from the Sea Horse tragedy, The Metal Man, The Newtown and Guillamene swimming coves and The Waterford and Tramore Railway.
The beauty of Ocean Joy House is that we are in walking distance to all of this and more.
We are just 5 mins walk to the bus station that is only a 20 mins journey into Waterford City the oldest city in Ireland.
The music scene in Tramore is very good with live music, from rock to traditional Irish in many of the pubs weekly. We have many festivals during the summer months, catering for everyone, especially the up and coming Vitamin Sea Festival, September 20th - 22nd.
