Located in Nawalgarh, a small, quietly bustling town in the heart of Rajasthan’s colorful Shekhawati region, the Rajesh Jangid Tourist Pension offers 6 double rooms with attached bathroom in a Brahmin family home. The rooms are immaculate and spacious, with a strong environmental ethos: organic food from local farms is offered, recycling facilities and solar-power is used for lighting, cooking and hot water. Nawalgarh’s banyan-shaded town center and unrivalled havelis are within easy walking distance. Nawalgarh is also an excellent base for exploring the surrounding towns/villages, the desert terrain and mountain landscapes.
The Rajesh Jangid Tourist Pension was established in 1980 (it was previously known as the Ramesh Jangid Tourist Pension – the first family-staying guesthouse in Rajasthan). The Tourist Pension is now run by Ramesh’s son Rajesh and his wife Sarla, who continue Ramesh Jangid’s pioneering work. Furnishings in the Pension are made by Rajesh’s grandfather, award-winning carving carpenter, who also worked on the havelis.
