Hello and a warm welcome!
We’re a two man team running The Old schoolhouse.
Magnea is Icelandic born and raised in Reykjavík, while Greg is from the south coast of England.
We’ve spent most of our lives in southwest London, where we raised two kids and pursued our careers. Greg was a teacher & headmaster in a private school for boys and Magnea was in aviation heading up the European/Asian sales department for a large international corporation.
We’re now in an exciting new chapter of our lives!! In early 2024 we stepped away from our jobs in London.
With the kids now out of the house, we went travelling for couple months — staying in guesthouses, learning yoga, and taking the time to dream big about the future.
We have swapped the jetsetting, the busy city life, and the business attire to gardening gloves and Icelandic woolly jumpers.
From 2017 when we bought Gaulverjaskóli - The Old School House, we ran it alongside our full-time jobs in London, with the invaluable support of family and friends. Early on we decided to offer the house exclusively to private groups — a more manageable setup while living abroad.
Every vacation and spare moment since has been dedicated to bringing our vision for Gaulverjaskóli to life. As a family, we've spent each trip building, painting, planting, and slowly transforming the space into something truly special. In October 2024 we reconfigured and refurbished the whole house and added bathrooms for each bedroom. Making it more comfortable and attractive for our guests.
Now we live here (upstairs) most of the time, and run it as a guesthouse.
The best thing about running our business - is that we get all kinds of people from all over the world to come and stay with us.
We can't wait to welcome you!

Gaulverjaskoli was built 1947 and operated as the local school until 2006.
Our old schoolhouse is the perfect base for 2-7 days to explore Iceland’s stunning South Coast. Almost every guest that comes here says they'd wished they had booked for few nights. We are ideally located, there is easy access to some of the region’s most iconic destinations—including Reykjavík, Reykjanes geothermal area, Thingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss, Seljalandsfoss, Vík, Sólheimajökull glacier, Reynisfjara black sand beach, and the Westman Islands (Vestmannaeyjar), to name a few.
Our garden atrium is an oasis from May-October along with the hot tub and the cold plunge, providing a relaxation retreat vibe for our guests after a day of exploring.
The vastness of the sky is the biggest natural feature in this place, with no light pollution - making it perfect for stargazing and northern lights watching.
