I am Kazue Shimada, your host at DAISEN UMIHOTARU. I was born and raised in this area and I truly enjoy sharing the charm of Daisen with my guests. With a warm heart and local knowledge, I do my best to make sure every visitor feels welcome and at home. I am passionate about hospitality and happy to provide recommendations for nearby restaurants, cafe, and sightseeing spots, so that your stay becomes both comfortable and memorable.
DAISEN UMIHOTARU is located within walking distance of the fishing port, local eateries, and markets offering fresh seafood. Guests can enjoy strolling through the nostalgic streets of Mukaiya or exploring the natural beauty of Mount Daisen, which offers hiking, skiing, and seasonal outdoor activities. Nearby hot springs, about a 10-minute drive away, provide a relaxing way to experience Japanese culture.
The property is set in a quiet countryside town, where shops do not stay open late at night. Still, the area is full of hidden local gems. Guests can discover cozy cafés loved by locals, Mikuri, a French restaurant newly opened in a renovated traditional house that highlights fresh local ingredients and is highly regarded in the community, and a lively fish market inside the port. Please note that dining at Mikuri requires a reservation—if you would like to visit, kindly let our staff know in advance so we can assist with the booking. These spots allow visitors to experience the authentic charm and warmth of everyday life in Tottori.
