A home base for rest, reconnection, and gentle adventure.
Kamui Kids House is our community hub and lodging space in Funagata, Yamagata—tucked between the mountains and the Oguni River. It’s a space where families, friends, and fellow travelers can gather, slow down, and reconnect with nature and each other.
We use the house for weekday programs and seasonal learning adventures, but it’s also available for private stays by visiting families and supporters.
I am the representative of Kamui Kids in Funagata, Yamagata, where we create a welcoming and inspiring space for families, travelers, and learners of all ages. With a background in systems ecology and years of experience in community-based education, I specialize in blending nature, culture, and hospitality. Our accommodations are part of a larger vision: a safe and comfortable ibasho (gathering place) where people can relax, connect, and explore the beauty of northern Japan. Guests enjoy the quiet charm of rural life alongside opportunities for unique cultural and outdoor experiences—whether it’s hands-on crafts, forest walks, or simply time spent together in a cozy home. As an American living with my Japanese family, I bring both international perspective and deep local connection to everything I do, ensuring visitors feel both at home and enriched by their stay.
Nestled in the mountains of northern Yamagata, Funagata is a peaceful rural town where visitors can experience the slower rhythms of Japanese countryside life. Surrounded by cedar forests, rivers, and rice fields, the area offers year-round charm: cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery and mountain streams in summer, brilliant foliage in autumn, and snow-covered landscapes in winter. It’s a place for hiking, exploring hidden waterfalls, local festivals, and connecting with nature in its purest form.
