Mārtiņš Mediņš, the owner of “Ausekļu dzirnavas” mill has been pursuing his dream of having a
museum of farming machinery and objects step by step from 1990. Since 2009, it has been
materialized as the “Ausekļu dzirnavas” recreation complex, which offers guests not only to see the vast collection in several museum rooms with the ability to see the water mill in action, but also to relax and host events in the Mill house banquet hall, sauna house, recreation area, bread and pie-making creative workshops, pancake tasting.

The sauna house is a log building. There is a lounge (comfortable for 8 persons) on the ground floor with a fireplace and area to make a small meal (kettle, microwave, fridge, hot water, radio available), sauna room, shower and toilet, an outdoor terrace overlooking the museum grounds with a water mill. Located close to the Bārbele sulphur spring (a vintage spa site), the sauna house has a unique deep-well drinking water available from the tap, with a slight smell of sulfur, present when boiling the water (approved for drinking by state food authority). On the second floor of the house, two rooms with four wooden single beds are available. Six extra folding beds with mattresses available. We provide bed linen, towel. Outside, a balcony/terrace with views of the property and surrounding area.

The guesthouse “Ausekļu dzirnavas” is located in the fold of Iecava River on the property of the
open-air museum 2 km from the centre of Bārbele parish, 69 km from Riga, 1 km from a unique
nature object – Bārbele sulphur spring (one of the first water spas in Latvia). Guests are offered
accommodation and access to a spacious recreation area with designated fire places and a childrens playground. The open-air museum of the “Ausekļu dzirnavas” hosts a “Lazdu” windmill and a water mill. A collection of vintage tools - engines, machinery, household and farming items distributed in several vintage buildings - can be seen. In the water mill (except in winter), you can see the process of milling grain. The nearest airport is Riga International Airport, which is 76 km from the guesthouse “Ausekļu dzirnavas”. The border of Lithuania is 10 km away.
