Stay in the historic Coach House at Earnscleugh Castle (Heritage NZ Cat.1), just 5 minutes from Clyde and 10 minutes from Alexandra, right by the Lake Dunstan Trail. This restored 3-bed retreat blends heritage character with modern comfort: full kitchen, cosy lounge with wood burner, laundry, safe parking, and e-bike charging. Explore nearby wineries, wander century-old gardens, or arrange a castle tour. The Coach House is your perfect Central Otago base — history and adventure in one.
Ryan & Marco fell in love with Earnscleugh Castle the moment they drove up the long gravel driveway. What began as a neglected heritage property is now their life’s restoration project — a labour of love blending history, design, and hospitality. Ryan brings years of tourism and hospitality experience, while Marco’s property background and eye for detail have guided the castle’s revival. Together, they’ve created the Coach House as a place where guests can share in the story: part heritage, part adventure, and wholly Central Otago.
Earnscleugh Castle and associated buildings are a protected Heritage 1 site. When booking the Coach House, we are more than happy to provide a tour of the castle. Please arrange a time with us prior to your stay. Furthermore, please free to walk around and explore the extensive trees and gardens around the property which were planted over 100 years ago. The owners have two super friendly French Bulldogs that are unleashed. They may come and say hello and are very friendly with other dogs and people. Their names are Jake and George. Please don’t feed them.
