Paheke is the perfect retreat. A New Zealand Historic Places Trust listed property, the old house was built in 1862 with all of its charm and character. An extension wing is in a style sympathetic to the historic house, but with all the modern conveniences and luxuries.
The house is surrounded by quiet gardens and stone walls established at the same time that the house was built. The bird life is prolific with kereru (native wood pigeon), pīwakawaka (fantails), tui and colorful rosella's. At night you will also hear the call of the kiwi and the native owl or ruru.
Our rooms all have large comfortable beds, quality linen, ensuite bathrooms, free wifi, and air conditioning. In the morning a full cooked breakfast is served in the historic houses dining room; this will start your day perfectly.
Come for a peaceful retreat or if you are in Northland on business, use Paheke as a comfortable place to stay. Paheke is the perfect a base from which to cycle Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail or take a relaxing soak in the Waiariki Hot Springs and Ngawha Spa.
Your hosts are Juen and Anya Duxfield. Paheke used to be an old farmhouse and was purchased by the Duxfield's in the late '90s and totally renovated. The three suites in the new addition were added. The house was filled with period furniture in keeping with the historic house. Paheke is both a loved family home and a boutique lodge.
Paheke is set in rural grounds just off the State Highway 1 near the historic village of Ohaeawai. Paheke is on the edge of the historic mission land of Waimate North. It is a 3-minute drive to the beautiful Waimate North Mission house and grounds which were established in 1863 by the Anglicans. It was visited by Charles Darwin. Paheke is also close to Okaihau and Kaikohe which are points along the Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail. Nearby is the Ngawha Springs, for a long soak in natural hot springs after your cycle ride. It is a short drive to Kerikeri and Paihia.
